So I then found myself with a second straight selection and an interesting decision to make. I could very easily draft a defensive talent as there was some good talent still on the board, particularly at defensive line and in the secondary. However, I also remember hearing a little detail about offensive coordinator John DeFilippo’s system using a “move” tight end that can stretch the seams.
Once again, I find another talent that I’d bet even general manager Rick Spielman wouldn’t pass up on if given the chance to pick him…
Round 2, pick #5 – Hayden Hurst, Tight End. South Carolina
Hurst rates as one of the top two or three tight ends in this talented class, so for him to be available and the chance to add another potential playmaker for new quarterback Kirk Cousins is simply too good an opportunity to pass up. Combo at receiver. Combo at running back. Why not have a tight end combo as well?
An offense with the level of diversity that Hurst’s addition could potentially provide would be nearly impossible to stop. He provides just enough speed to be the missing dimension to John DeFilippo’s offense.
